Pentlach Seafood seals deal with Thrifty Foods
The world is our oyster

Under blue skies on July 22, 2010, a crowd gathered outside Thrifty Foods in Courtenay to celebrate the Pentlatch Seafoods Ltd exclusive deal with the chain of grocery stores.
Richard Hardy and Krissy Brown were preparing to share samples of Komo Gway baked oysters and steamed clams with the crowd while the Kumugwe Dancers were preparing to share part of the K’ómoks culture. Thrifty Food manager Rick Gaiga opened the celebration by saying that Thrifty Foods is very happy to be supporting local, sustainable food.
The dancers performed a variety of dances to a delighted crowd, braving the hot parking lot pavement on their bare dancing feet. The hoylikila?? dance looked especially beautiful sending eagle down blowing through downtown Courtenay in the summer breeze.
For the ba?k?wa?s dance, Andy Everson cautioned the thrilled crowd not to eat the old man’s slugs. Andy also told the crowd that Komo Gway means “wealth” and that the Kumugwe Dancers are proud to share a name with the seafood company.
After a cheerful applause for the dancers, the crowd, happy as clams, lined up to sample delicious Komo Gway seafood that was set outside the doors of Thrifty Foods.
